Staff biographies

La Luna Youth Arts is staffed by two full-time workers, two part-timers and heaps of workshop tutors. They are:

Hilary - Artistic & Executive Director

Joined the ranks in 1996 as the program director and drama tutor before becoming the Artistic Director in 2004. She studied Drama and Technical Theatre at QUT in Brisbane, and added an education qualification to round off her uni studies. Hilary, as the AD, conceives and plans the year's shows and workshops before working really hard all year to make sure that everything goes to plan.

Nam - Marketing Officer

Has been involved in theatre marketing since finishing uni in 2007 with a degree in Creative Arts majoring in Theatre and Marketing from JCU. She likes working in the arts field because it means she can daydream all the time at work and not get into trouble for it because she's actually "designing creative stuff in her head"!

Fiona - Administrator

An established potter, she began working with La Luna Youth Arts for many years as a visual artist and is now the happy voice who answers our phones and makes sure we all get paid every week. She moved from Darwin with her husband and three children (now teenagers) 12 years ago and has not looked back since.

Jonathon - Program Officer

Is one of our dedicated drama tutors and all-round nice guy. He’s been tutoring on and off with La Luna Youth Arts over the last 10 years and is good for a few jokes or a bit of impro when the workday starts to drag in the afternoons.

James - Program Officer

James is a former youth member of La Luna Youth Arts where he learnt the tricks of the trade in performing arts. From here he ran away to the circus in Melbourne and then in Alice Springs, where he honed the finer craft of circus manipulation, as well as the physical skills of both aerial and acro-balance.

Julie - Assistant Drama Tutor

Julie has been living on the Island for ten years and loves it! If she's not working with the kids, you can find her scouring the beaches on the Island looking for seaglass that she incorporates into silver jewellery and sculptures. After doing a silversmith course at Fremantle Arts Centre in WA, Julie spent four years living in Broome before moving here and that's where her love of collecting seaglass started. Julie's other great passion is her garden and is always very pleased with herself when tucking into a fresh piece of organic fruit that she's grown.
